You must obtain a NSW Learners Licence at the RTA before you can learn to drive

What do I do once I have my Learners Licence ?

"Achieve your Personal Best"

  • Minimum age to apply for a learners licence is 16 years.

  • To obtain a learners licence you need to have passed a Drivers Knowledge Test (DKT) and eyesight test.

  • DKT is a computer based road rules knowledge test.  You have to answer 45 questions, and to pass you must get at least 41 correct.

  • You can attempt the DKT at any RTA office, if you fail you can retry.

  • Once you have passed the DKT, you will be issues with a Learner LIcence and a Learner driver logbook.
  • Learners licence issued from 1st of July will be valid for 5 years.

  • When you are issued with your learner licence you will receive a Learner Driver Log Book, so that you and your supervising driver(s) can record your driving experience.

  • You will have to log at least 120 hours of supervised driving (which includes 20 hours of night driving) before you can attempt the Driving Test to move to a provisional licence.

  • Although PB Driving School are qualified to mark your log book, 120 hours of supervised driving does not mean 120 hours with an instructor.  A family member or friend may supervise you and sign of your log book if you wish.
